While observing a 5th grade outdoor education class, a boy looked at the view of the Tetons from just south of the dining hall, turned to me, and said,

“Wow. This is the perfect place to just sit and look at the view and journal. One time I climbed a mountain over there (he pointed west) and drew a picture of a landscape. It was the most beautiful picture I ever drew.”

Later, he was asked to nominate another student to hold the leadership cape for the next part of the hike. He said, referring to a student with obvious ADHD,

“I nominate this person because even though he gets sidetracked easily, he clearly wants to learn and is trying really hard. I think he’ll be a really good leader.”
