Today as I was busily writing a synthesis of my first fall term in grad school during the beginnings of a December snow storm, a ruffed grouse (as you all may know, us Mainers call them partridges…even though they technically aren’t…) walked right past my window just a couple feet away. Partridges here in Wyoming seem to be greyer than our rather brown partridges in Maine, but they camouflage just as well. This one was busily swallowing some of the remaining prairie rose hips, wrinkled and still hanging onto their branches.
